Sports enthusiasm

Good afternoon, Internet!

My dad has two daughters. My younger sister, Jordan, and I are the light of my dad's life according to him, but I think he wanted a little guy that he could throw a football to in the backyard or someone to appreciate the blood, sweat and other bodily fluids expelled on the ice during a Stars game.

When I was a younger, I attempted soccer, softball and track, but the family soon realized that my miniature size and stature didn't exactly work in my favor for real deal sports. I started dancing when I was 3 years old and haven't stopped since. My dad was incredibly supportive of my more graceful means of exercise and entertainment, partially because his little girl wasn't being smacked in the face with a ball or chased by kids twice her size.

Even though I traded cleats for pink tights, leotards, and bobby pins, I still enjoy a good game. The Packers is the best team in the NFL and any of you who say otherwise are wrong. Just kidding! Or am I?

My dad started taking my little sister, Jordan, and I to Rangers games when we were little girls. He used to play baseball and wanted us to enjoy it as much as he enjoys it. I used to love getting the kid's ice cream sundaes because they came in a plastic dish made to look like a Rangers baseball cap.

Now that I understand the game, I enjoy much more than the ice cream sundaes. Baseball is America's favorite pastime. The game itself provides entertainment without as much tension and stress as other games, such as Football. (Although I would appreciate a little more excitement at the Longhorns football games.) Also, the stadium creates a sociable environment in which spectators are free to roam and socialize from their seats or from inside any of the food establishments inside stadium walls.

I went to a game last weekend and as per usual, I wanted to look presentable. I left the jerseys to the boys; I supported my team in a cuter ensemble. I put my frugality to practice once again and came up with great results.

I have to include a blurb about my pre-game meal because it was just that delicious.

Keller's double meat burger with cheese

Keller's is a drive-in fast food megastar located in Dallas, Tx. Forget gourmet burgers and special foreign ingredients; give me a greasy stack of meat, cheese and condiments any day. Keller's takes cash only and sports the all-American classics like burgers, hot dogs, and shakes. It's definitely not the classiest of places so if you're looking for a place to sit down, keep on driving. Prices are reasonable and the food is outstanding. I had a cheeseburger as big as my face, fries and a shake for a little more than $10.

The burger was delicious, but I had to eat carefully so as to avoid staining my outfit for the evening. For a hot night at a ballpark, I kept my outfit casual and cool.

To keep from spending too much money, I recycled my Kendra Scott earrings from my Mac Miller concert post. Without a doubt, that pretty pair is becoming my go-to because they compliment almost any outfit.

One of my favorite ways to refill my closet without loosening the purse strings too much is going to see what Buffalo Exchange has on the racks. Buffalo stores new and recycled clothes and always has great finds. There are locations all over the country and they all work the same way. I've been to the Dallas and Austin locations so many times I can't even guesstimate my attendance count.

When people bring in their old clothes, Buffalo has staff on site to go through the clothes and look for something they want to add to the racks. Last spring I cleaned out my closet and they took almost everything from my bags. Sellers have the option of receiving 70% of their buying price for store credit or 50% of the buying price back in cash. For example, I took an old dress there and Buffalo put a tag on it for $50. I didn't feel like looking around for anything, so I took $25 in cash home with me.

I found an Alice + Olivia top originally priced for $175 for only $22 and Joe's jean shorts originally priced at $145 for $40 at Buffalo.

Some people are turned off by the idea of thrift shopping because of the stigma around wearing a stranger's clothes. As a repeat buyer and seller at Buffalo, I can assure anyone weary out there that these clothes are in excellent condition. Buffalo staff is trained to look for any imperfections in clothes before adding them to their racks. They inspect every piece a seller brings in for stains, snags, broken zippers, etc. and won't buy anything that is unkempt.

I recommend buying and selling from Buffalo. People come in every day so inventory is always changing and in order to keep their racks full, Buffalo is always buying. It's a great way to make a quick buck without doing anything and a great way to come across top-of-the-line merchandise for ridiculously low prices.

The splurge:

I swear by Steve Madden shoes. They are a bit pricey, but not overly expensive. I got these awesome flats for $60. I'm obsessed with the chunky gold cuff over the top of the foot. They are pretty comfortable and adjust for different sizes easily.

This outfit was easy to put together and I received so many compliments on it. Although we lost the game, it was still a good night out with some friends.

Stay tuned for my next post on how to look great without breaking the bank!

Festive fun

Hello everyone!

I am getting ready to drive down to Austin with some of my friends for the weekend. The July 4th holiday has inspired me to create a fun patriotic look. Red, white and blue is my inspiration! As per usual, I want to put together an affordable look to make it accessible to anyone.

We're going to spend the day with friends at Cain and Abel's before hosting a cookout later in the evening. I'm going to be outside all day so it is important to put together an outfit that will allow me to be cool and comfortable.

Tobi is an online boutique that carries a variety of women's clothing and accessories. It's members are offered the latest fashion trends and very reasonable prices. I've been a Tobi member for over a year and I love it! Discounts on new items come in pretty often and the sale section is updated daily. Promotion codes are also sent out to members around holidays for an extra discount.

I recommend everyone sign up for Tobi. Membership is free and products are top notch. Usually merchandise is pretty inexpensive and all of the discounts bring prices down even more. All the savings are hard to ignore!

This Delia top is a brand new product so instead of $40, I got it for $28. The new item discount will no longer be valid after 30 days. This top comes also comes in peach and mint, but I chose white for the 4th of July theme. Also, a white top will be easier to recycle for other outfit combinations.

It may be cheesy, but I really wanted to find some American flag shorts. What better way to support our country than by wearing our flag? I found these shorts at Nordstrom. They were originally $68, but they were on sale for $35. The way the pattern fades to black on the bottom part portion of the shorts is genius. If the entire pair of shorts were as bright as the top half, the bold pattern would be too dramatic and look corny.

My splurge for this outfit was the shoes. I'm very short so I usually wear pretty big heels. I wanted to wear wedges with this outfit to dress it up a little without overdoing it. I don't typically wear the Jessica Simpson brand because I'm not a huge fan of her collection, but I made an exception. I found a diamond in the rough! I found these wedges at Nordstrom for $90. They have a one inch platform and 4.5 inch heel. Despite being 5.5 inches off the ground, they're very comfortable and easy to wear.

I hope these peeks at my wardrobe can inspire you to look for deals. Be a smart shopper! Look good and keep your paycheck in tact.

Happy Almost-Birthday, America!

Dressing for a concert

Hello!

Summer is here and beating the heat is difficult to do! Tonight, my boyfriend and I will escape from the sweltering outdoors and head to a Mac Miller concert.

As a stereotypical "girly-girl," I plan on dressing up for this occasion. I love shopping and hit up a few stores to get an outfit ready just for tonight.

As a 21-year old on a college budget, I am always looking for ways to save on my wardrobe. I like to focus on getting high quality goods for a fraction of the price. Typically I save on clothes and use my splurge money on accessories like shoes or jewelry. I employed these tactics for my shopping adventure and this is what I found:

Target maxi dress

This Target maxi dress was under $30. The bold pattern makes it stand out and the braided back gives it a fun, flirty look. Target has some great merchandise for lower costs. People enjoy shopping at Target because they can find fashionable products for reasonable prices.

"Target is one of my favorite stores. I feel like I can find everything I need there without having to worry about how much cash I'll have to fork over at the cashier," said Alexa Vincent, student at The University of Georgia.

This cute shoes are incredibly comfortable and give the outfit a splash of color without competing with the pattern of the dress. I purchases these sandals for $8.50. Talk about a deal! Forever 21 can be quite hectic to navigate because their stores are huge. I promise the hunting is well worth it.

The splurge:
Karina Feather Earrings in Gold
I paid $75 for these Karina earrings. I splurged a bit on these because they're very versatile. They're also available in silver for the same price. Kendra Scott has stores in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Austin. Her products can also be purchased online from the Kendra Scott website or at department stores like Nieman Marcus or Nordstrom. My advice is to always check the sale rack. Designs and featured colors are recycled frequently, meaning the sale pile is constantly growing!

I want the dress pattern and earrings to be the focal point of my outfit for tonight so hair and makeup will be really simple. I'm going to wet my hair and twist it over my left shoulder to let it dry. This will allow the ends to have a little flip without giving it too much of a curl.

Makeup regimen:
Maybelline's Dream Fresh BB Cream : $7.44 at Target
Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder: $11.24 at Target
Milani Bronzer XL All Over Glow: $7.68 at Target
Covergirl Brown Eyeliner: $4.24 at Target
Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express mascara: $6.09 at Target

Appearance is important because it sends a message to those around you. You never know who you may meet and you don't want their first impression of you to be unsavory because you looked bad.

The deals above keep me looking my best without breaking the bank. I challenge you to go out to these stores and try not to come back with anything. I'll bet it's nearly impossible!

Until next time fashionistas!
